Post Graduate Department of Biotechnology of DAV College, since its inception in 2005, has created a niche as one of the best Biotechnology departments in the city. It is known for its academic excellence, excellent infrastructure with its state of the art laboratories, departmental library and most importantly its efficient and highly experienced motivated faculty members. In these sixteen years of its existence the department has left a mark and crossed several milestones by producing some of the best students, who are spread all over the world and are contributing their bit to the society. This has been possible only because of the unconditional support extended by the present and previous Principals and DAV managing committee.
No department can exist without its heart i.e the students. The department is credited to have several University toppers in all these years, both at the UG and PG level, along with excelling in extracurricular activities, thus bringing laurels to the Department and the college. The students of this department have been highly placed in various corporate and biotech companies as well as best research and teaching institutes of the country and abroad. This was possible because of the excellent and most advanced Practical along with theoretical training imparted to them. They are routinely exposed to various scientific lectures being delivered by eminent scientists and academicians from all over the country and abroad. They also get the opportunity to interact with these scientists and are encouraged to bring out their best caliber. They are also given academic exposure by organizing Seminars, conferences and workshops where they get the opportunity to present their research work. The students are always made to feel at home by the congenial behavior of the teachers who also are ever ready to help the students at both professional and personal front.
Further to ignite the young minds an activity club namely Biotechnology Activity Club (BAC) was established in 2005 under whose umbrella several scientific activities and invited lectures are organized every year. In our quest to further explore the capabilities of students and allow them to spread their wings, they were encouraged to bring out a departmental magazine.
The department is also known for its excellent research work carried out by the faculty members and students. It has its own Research Center approved by Panjab University, where students carry out their Ph.D work under the guidance of the efficient faculty members. Each faculty member has to their credit number of research publications in peer reviewed International and National journals.
The department also has to its credit of obtaining the first Consultancy Project in the college by one of the faculty member, Dr. Kakoli Biswas, Associate Professor & Head of the department which was signed between her and Amulya Herbs Pvt. Ltd, Panchkula in June 2019. Also putting a feather in the cap is the first Indian Patent to be granted to Dr. Kakoli for her invention in the field of Biotechnology in 2020.
The Department of Biotechnology stands as one of the best departments of the DAV College.
DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

The Department of Botany established in the year 1958 offers undergraduate courses – B.Sc. (Medical) and B.Sc. Biotechnology Elective. The course not only includes study of Plants Diversity but also gives an insight into a comprehensive view of allied branches which opens the doors to the sea of opportunities in the fields of higher education and research. The department boasts of having a well-qualified and highly experienced faculty comprising of three members. The faculty members have many national and international publications to their credit. The Department maintains two well-equipped Laboratories for enhancing practical knowledge, a Museum, and a Botanical Garden. The department has the honour of hosting various academic dignitaries by virtue of hands on workshops, lectures and interactive sessions as a way forward in enriching student’s knowledge. Educational Trips are conducted on a regular basis to create awareness of the flora of the city beautiful and surrounding areas amongst the students. The Department of Botany has an active Botanical Association which organizes various activities for the students.

The Department of Chemistry, DAV College, Chandigarh is being run by a very well qualified staff having specializations in varied fields. The department is offering both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The postgraduate department, since its inception in the year 2005 has consistently produced good results with many students qualifying the UGC-NET exam every year. The department has also been allocated the prestigious Research Centre by the Panjab University for supervising Ph.D. work. To supplement this, the college is running the state-of-art Central Instrumentation Laboratory.

The Department of Commerce has the privilege of being one of the leading departments of Commerce in the Panjab University.
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1972 with BCom as its main course and in the year 2000, it grew further with providing the Post Graduation Degree i.e., MCom.
The Vision of the department is to focus on the overall development and progress of the students and impart job oriented skills and knowledge. It intends to generate a pool of productive minds for the corporate sector as well as the community which adds value to the society as a whole. It’s Mission is to empower the students with theoretical and practical knowledge through an interactive learning programme. In addition to this, it endeavours to develop a two-way learning forum where teachers and students contribute to the growth of each other and paves a way for the college to reach heights of excellence.
The department is managed by an extremely efficient, highly qualified and a dedicated faculty. The faculty has 21 members, of which 16 holding esteemed doctoral degrees, four members holding MPhil degrees and few pursuing doctoral degrees presently.
The faculty members have numerous books, multiple of publications and research papers in UGC approved journals and International journals to their credit. The department is actively involved in holding conferences, conducting seminars and faculty development programmes for the benefits of the teachers and the students. There are a large number of research scholars pursuing research work under the able guidance of faculty team members. Being a productive part of the society, the faculty fully understands the significance of the aspect of social responsibility, thereby contributing to the society through community outreach services. The department is proactive in providing opportunities to the students for future placements as the students are excelling in studies with a large number of students being Distinction Holders. The department also endeavours to involve the students in co-curriculum and extra-curriculum activities through the Commerce Society. The Commerce Society has the honour of holding Recruitment Drives, Business Week, Colosseum, and many other activities. In future the department aims to establish a Commerce Research Centre, to have collaborations with the corporate sector for better practical, value based, result oriented knowledge and impart education to our students for their bright future.

Department of Computer Science was established in year 1999 with an aim to offer computer oriented degree programs to the students. As of date, it offers Bachelors of Computer Applications (BCA) and B.Sc. (Computer Sc.) programs and has more than 600 students from diverse & culturally rich backgrounds. The department boasts of modern computer labs well equipped with all the required software (both licensed and open source), internet connectivity and necessary hardware. The department boasts of highly experienced and well qualified faculty with four of the members holding PhD degrees. Faculty members also have high quality publications in both National and International journals, conference proceedings and books with renowned publication houses. Teachers are also part of Board of Studies for undergraduate and Postgraduate programs of various universities and regularly take part in curriculum development and enhancement activities.

The Department of Economics established in 1958 envisions development of practical and result oriented venture into the vast field of economics. The department faculty has 11 members, with six holding esteemed doctoral degrees. The faculty members have several accolades to their name with multitude of publications in UGC approved journals and international journals. The members of faculty have also authored widely circulated books. The department has had honor of hosting various dignitaries to enrich student knowledge. Apart from academic achievements, the department also endeavors to involve students in activities aimed at promoting holistic development. To advance this goal, The Economics Society was established in tandem with the healthy tradition of yearly student festivals. The department in future aims to initiate a journal in Economics, develop job oriented courses, conduct extensive interdisciplinary lectures, ensure regular faculty training and establish a research centre.

B.A, B.Ed (four years integrated ) department was established in the year 2016. Unique feature of this course is that one can complete his/her graduation and B.Ed within four years thus saving one year time. This is the only college in Tricity which is running this prestigious course. The department is engaged in activities such as multidisciplinary perspectives and knowledge. The formation of disposition and values, development of best practices under competent and high quality mentors. Students are grounded in Indian traditions, values, ethos, knowledge and at the same time being well-versed in the latest advances in education and pedagogy. Committed efforts are made in raising the quality in teacher prospective. The institution is engaged in ensuring holistic and multidisciplinary learning. Even fine arts, performing and folk art is encouraged along with progress of teacher education.
DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Having been established with the inception of the college, the Department of English has distinguished itself in various spheres of English studies, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, etc. In 2002 with the introduction of M.A. classes, it became a post-graduate department. Today, the department has the privilege of being one of the leading departments of English in any college of the the Panjab University. The department has been publishing a research journal called ‘The Scholastic Forum’. At the postgraduate level, papers such as, Literary Criticism, Critical Theory, Literary Movements, Indian Writings in English, British and American literatures, World Literature, Research Methods, Creative Writing and Soft Skills are offered to the students. Besides these, many teachers are guiding research in such diverse fields as Indian Literature in English, Post Colonial Literatures, Native American Studies, Cultural Studies, Children Literature, Film Studies, Indian Aesthetics, Bhasha Literatures, etc. Besides organizing conferences and seminars on regular basis, the department invites creative writers and academic stalwarts for lectures on various aspects of English literature. The faculty of the department is actively involved in the various administrative bodies of the university and contributes towards the running of the college in various ways.
DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

Department of Geography is one of the oldest departments’ of the college. It started in 1958 with 1 lecturer and 6 students. Since the time of inception, department has grown manifold. Today, 4 permanent faculty (1 Associate Professor and 3 Assistant Professors) , 4 guest faculty (Assistant Professors) and 2 Laboratory Staff teach close to 500 undergraduate students. The department is one of the oldest in Chandigarh to offer Honors in Geography.
The department is very well equipped with state of art teaching aids, smart class room, a fully equipped Geographic Information Systems Laboratory (GIS Lab) with faculty having diploma in GIS to teach the students. There are 2 fully equipped Geography Labs with most advanced cartographic equipment and complements of latest maps and models to help students learn better. There is a book-bank too to help students. The college library has a large collection of Geography text as well as reference books and there is an annual addition to the books.
“The Geographical Society” is a body of students mentored by the faculty which organizes study tours, surveys, quizzes, and expert lectures. The office bearers of the society are democratically elected by the students themselves. Annual exhibitions, quizzes, study tours, expert lectures and surveys help students learn the subject hands on. The Society also runs a wall magazine, the objective of which is to give visual depiction of recent events on the world or local maps as well as provide information regarding environment, disasters and other geographical events.
The department maintains a constant co-ordination with Department of Geography, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Survey of India, NW Circle, Chandigarh and Census of India offices to keep students abreast of all latest developments the subject, in map making techniques as well as the latest Census data.
DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

Department of Hindi is one of the oldest department. It was established soon after the inception of the DAVC. It offers classes for Hindi language and literature for undergraduates in two courses, i.e. Hindi Elective and Hindi Honours. The syllabus as designed by the Panjab University is taught in these courses. Hindi Department’s teaching methodology is unique and innovative because it holds larger objective and vision before the student community. It enables undergraduates to have better perspective to understand language, literature and multiplicity of cultures. It is combined with references of insightful literary works of various authors, writers and scholars. Students get exposed to the history of literature and various critical theories along with course work which enables them to have better perspective of future. Retaining the insightful ancient wisdom and combining it with contemporary trends and developments in the teaching and reading of the course work. Department has a facility of internet and small library which helps students with references and text books. The section of department works on improving language skills, hence learning and teaching becomes a cultural practice which caters to the need of creative minds. Apart from course work students are also engaged in literary activities such as improving creative writing skills, participation in competitions and in making presentations. Faculty members of the department are actively involved in incorporating new techniques and methods in teaching so that students get updated versions of knowledge and learning. Department organises lectures, Talks and Discussions by the guest speakers invited from the renowned Universities and Institutions, film and documentary screening, poetry and short story presentation sessions and publication to help students nurture and shape their creative skills.

The Department of History is one of the oldest departments of the DAV College. Since its inception the department has strived to instil humanistic values to the students at the undergraduate level. The syllabi in the bachelor's degree programme can help history students build a strong foundation in the history of past societies, research, writing, and presentation as they explore human activity and capability through the lens of history. The wide ranging course covers diverse topics from history of India as well as the world. A student opting for a history subject gains knowledge in culture, religion, economy, politics, art, architecture, and human choices for aggression and peace initiatives. As an unique discipline of social sciences it prepares a student to understand the society of past, present and future. The subject prepares a student to succeed in today’s competitive job market in areas like law, government and private sector, media, management and academics.
The faculty of the History Dept is highly qualified, energetic, spirited and student friendly. There are six permanent faculty. The dept. has a long tradition to generate interest in the history of students not only through class room teaching but also through activities like quizzes, theatre, seminars, powerpoint presentations and educational tours to historical sites.

The Department of Mathematics is one of the established departments of DAV College, Chandigarh. The department offers U.G and P.G Courses such as B.Sc, B.Sc Computer Science, B.A, M.Sc. The department works with enthusiasm and team work under the table guidance of Prof. Rita Jain, Head of the Department. The faculty is fully equipped with adequate knowledge and skills which helps them to become Multidisciplinary and cuts across manifold courses that are being run in the college. The department comprises of 13 faculty members with the combination of experience seniors and dynamic young members. The department is also involved in Research activities and has Six Doctorate members also. The department of mathematics founded Ramanujan Mathematical society in 2015 to give students the opportunity to enjoy Mathematics by conducting variety of cultural and Technical events and Guest lecturers for showing of knowledge. The society organises carious Inter-college contests and Educational trips with the active participation of students and faculty. The department’s aims to create a solid foundation for various mathematical concepts, structures and build mathematical skills.
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Department of Physical Education and Sports of the college has brought exemplary laurels to the college. No other institution can match our outstanding sporting achievements. Down the years, it has been home to more than 100 International super stars including Kapil Dev, Yograj Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Chetan Sharma, Dinesh Mongia, Amandeep Singh Johl, Chiranjeev Milkha Singh, Irina Brar, Manan Vohra, Hema K.C., Chahat Arora , Divyanka Chaudhary, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and so many others.
In the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, three of our students, namely Neeraj Chopra in Javelin Throw, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Anjum Moudgil in Shooting shall be representing India.
Twice, two cricket players from the college have been selected to represent India in the International Cricket matches at the same time. Our two players Kapil Dev and Yog Raj Singh represented India in cricket tests in Australia and New Zealand; Yuvraj Singh and Dinesh Mongia played together in the World Cup in 2003. Though India has never played at the World Football Cup, one of our overseas students, Emeka Ezugo represented his country Nigeria in the Cup of 1996.
Besides our international players, hundreds of our students have represented their states in national championships, and in the All-India and University Championships. Our vigorous sports promotion policy has enabled us to win the ‘Sir Shadi Lal Shield for General Efficiency and Excellence in Sports’ – a trophy given to the best college in sports amongst the 180 colleges affiliated to the Panjab University for achieving excellence in sports – 35 times, and consecutively for 33 years in a row, creating new records.
Right from the admission of the students opting for the subject of Physical Education and initial interaction with them, the sports department addresses the complete needs and interests of the students. A separate advertisement is also given in the newspapers announcing the dates of the sports trials, which are held at the time of admissions. Based upon their excellence in athletics or sports activities at regional or national level, special incentives like hostel facility free of cost, scholarships, free-ships, special dietary facilities, sports uniform and materials, and other benefits are offered to the sports persons. Fortunately, what has remained constant all these years is the talent we have been attracting. This coupled with the infrastructure and student support facilities available in the college has enabled us to remain on top. We have a flourishing Cricket Academy in the college. A 10M Shooting Range with Electronic Targets and Scatt Training System, and a floodlit Handball and Badminton court of International Standard has been added recently. All latest physical education literature and equipments are available with Department.
The students participate in various games such as volleyball, badminton, netball, basketball, table tennis, boxing, cricket, weight lifting and power lifting, athletics, swimming, lawn tennis, shooting, hockey, judo, kho-kho, Kabaddi, etc. Reputed coaches from the Sports Authority of India/Chandigarh Sports Department are engaged to guide and train them. Our department’s faculty along with the faculty of the department of Psychology of the college is also undertaking research projects to help our sportspersons prepare better. The department faculty has been acting as referees in national and international meets. They have officiated in the Asian, Commonwealth and many other international meets.

Department of Physics at D. A. V. College, Sector-10, Chandigarh is among the oldest departments of the college with well qualified and experienced faculty members and lab staff. The status of research centre was granted to the department by the Panjab University, Chandigarh in the year 2017. The department of Physics offers Honours course in Physics to the students in the second year of their undergraduate degree course. The Department of Physics also offers Post Graduate degree course affiliated to P.U. Chandigarh under self-financing scheme. The department has separate state-of-the-art and spacious laboratories for the undergraduate and post graduate courses. There are two dark rooms dedicated to the experiments related to optics. The department also has a computer lab for the M.Sc. classes. Apart from academic, extra-curricular activities and expert lectures for the students are also organised in the department during the session.

The Department of Political Science is one of the oldest and among the most popular departments of the college. Having been established with the inception of the college in 1958 has produced a number of IAS, IPS officers, judges of various honourable courts and many successful managers and businessmen alongwith Bollywood stars. All the faculty members of the department are Ph.Ds from distinguished universities of India like Panjab University and JNU and are guiding research in various fields e. g., Indian Politics,Peace Research, Social exclusion and inclusion, International Politics etc. A very large number of students opt for Political Science as an Elective as well as Honour's subject. We not only teach Honour's to our own students but also to the students of various other colleges of the city. A majority of our students get first class and many of them get distinctions. The Political Science Association is one of the most active Associations and hold a number of functions and events every year. The PSA also publishes an annual departmental magazine POLL - I -TICO to encourage the students develop writing skills and research aptitude

The Dept of Psychology, at DAV College, Sector 10 Chandigarh, was established as an undergraduate dept in the year 2002. It became a PG dept from 2005 and was the first college dept to be granted MA Psychology by the Panjab University. The dept has produced alumni who have excelled in a variety of diverse fields, ranging from the prestigious civil services, armed formes, paramilitary forces, corporate world, pioneering non government organisations and social work, sports, teaching, practising and working in reputed clinical settings, performing arts and theatre/cinema, both in India and abroad. The Dept has six highly qualified and trained permanent faculty and is assisted by temporary/adhoc staff as per the requirements. Not limiting to teaching and research alone, the staff has actively been involved in mentoring and guiding students in their pursuits. Free counselling is also given by the faculty to all the college students who may need help. Currently four faculty are supervising PhD under affiliation to the Panjab University. The number of students awarded PhD is 7, the number of thesis submitted are 4 and the number of students currently pursuing their PhD is 20. The students are trained in the curriculum and also encouraged for extra curricular activities focusing on their holistic development. The department regularly organises lectures, seminars and workshops by inviting eminent resource persons to enrich the learning experience of our students.

The Department of Public Administration, DAV COLLEGE,Sector 10 CHANDIGARH was established in the year 1965.Since then the department has grown by leaps and bounds and at present it is one of largest departments in term of student strength. The Department introduced Post Graduation in Public Administration in 2005-06.
At present, the department consists of 7 faculty members teaching students of undergraduation,undergraduate honours course and post graduation.
The faculty members are committed to set and achieve highest academic standards.They are actively engaged in individual research as well, having authored many text books and also a large number of research papers and articles which have been published in national and international publications.
Our students have consistently bagged top merit positions in Panjab University exams over the years.The department is committed to provide quality academic and professional development opportunities for all students.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਡੀ.ਏ.ਵੀ. ਕਾਲਜ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਡੀ.ਏ.ਵੀ. ਕਾਲਜ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਫੌਰਨ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਚਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਕਾਸਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਹ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਡਾ. ਨਾਹਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਾ. ਸੁਹਿੰਦਰਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਡਾ. ਭੀਮ ਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਰਗੇ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ/ਆਲੋਚਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਕੇ ਮਾਣ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਡੀ.ਵੀ.ਏ. ਕਾਲਜ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਤਿੰਨ ਕੋਰਸ- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਇਲੈਕਟਿਵ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਆਨਰਜ਼- ਨੂੰ ਅੰਡਰਗ੍ਰੈਜੁਏਟ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਲਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕੋਰਸ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਪਾਠਕ੍ਰਮਦੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸਿਵਲ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਚੌਣ, ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਦੇ ਕਿੱਤੇ, ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ, ਅਦਾਕਾਰੀ ਜਾਂ ਸਕਰਿੱਪਟ ਰਾਈਟਿੰਗ ਆਦਿ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ-ਵਿਧੀ (pedagogy) ਸਿਰਜਣਾਤਮਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਅਕਾਦਤਿਮਕ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਸੰਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਧੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਪੱਖੀ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ-ਪਸਾਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਕੋਣ ਤੋਂਸਮਝਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਵਿਧੀ ਕੋਈ ਅਮੂਰਤ ਜਾਂ ਆਪਹੁਦਰੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਲਕਿ ਬਾਹਰਮੁੱਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਧਾਰਨੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਲੇਖਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਅਧੀਨ ਕੋਰਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸੂਝਵਾਨਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਕਾਲੀ ਰੁਝਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਣਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦੇਹਨ। ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ-ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਵਿਭਾਗੀ ਲਾਇਬ੍ਰੇਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਮੌਜ਼ੂਦ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਬਣਾਏ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਨਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਅਭਿਆਸਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਣ ਦੀ ਭੂਮੀਕਾ ਵੀ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾਤਮਕ ਸਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਅਤ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਿਖਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਲਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ‘ਯੁਵਕ ਮੇਲੇ’ ਵਰਗੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਯੋਗ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ, ਸਬਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਸਚੈ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਸਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿਚਲੀਆਂ ਚਨੌਤੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਵੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਰਜਣਾਤਮਕ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਭਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਖਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਲਈ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਦਰਾਂ, ਫਿਲਮ ਤੇ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ੀ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਆਦਿ ਹਰ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਸੈਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਯੋਜਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਦੀ ਸਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਅਤ ਵਿਚ ‘ਸਵੈ-ਭਰੋਸੇ’ (self confidence) ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਬਹੁਪੱਖੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਨਿਸਚਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਸੁਹਜਮਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ-ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਤਕਨੀਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਚਲਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸਭਾ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਨਿਰਮਾਤਾ’ ਮੈਗਜ਼ੀਨ ਦਾ ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਕੋਨਾ’ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ।

डी.ए.वी. कॉलेज, चण्डीगढ-10 का संस्कृत विभाग कई दृष्टियों से महत्त्वपूर्ण है। डी.ए.वी. की स्थापना के उद्देश्य में से एक प्रमुख उद्देश्य संस्कृत और वैदिक शिक्षा का प्रसार भी है। इसी उद्देश्य को केंद्र में रखकर डी.ए.वी. कॉलेज, चंडीगढ़ अपने स्थापना काल से ही संस्कृत की शिक्षा से जुड़ा हुआ है। यद्यपि सामयिक प्रभाव के कारण संस्कृत ने अनेक उतार-चढ़ाव देखे हैं। फिर भी इन सब परिस्थितियों में विभाग ने अपने दायित्व को पूरी तरह से निभाने का प्रयास किया है। कॉलेज के प्राचार्य तथा अन्य स्टाफ के सहयोग से यह यात्रा निरंतर आगे बढ़ रही है। विगत सात वर्षों से संस्कृत विभाग की अध्यक्ष डॉ. सुषमा अलंकार हैं। यहाँ कुछ प्रमुख बिन्दु उद्धृत किए जा रहे हैं-
1. प्रतिवर्ष छात्रों का परिणाम 95% से अधिक रहता है और उनमें से अधिकांश विद्यार्थी विशेष मेरिट (उच्च योग्यता) के साथ परीक्षा में उत्तीर्ण होते हैं।
2. संस्कृत विभाग अपने विद्यार्थियों को प्रायः निःशुल्क पाठ्यपुस्तक व सामग्री उपलब्ध करवाता है।
3. राष्ट्रीय संस्कृत संस्थान (केंद्रीय संस्कृत विश्वविद्यालय, नई दिल्ली) के सौजन्य से विशिष्ट योग्यता वाले छात्रों को प्रतिवर्ष 400 रुपये मासिक छात्रवृत्ति भी प्रदान की जाती है।
4. छात्रों के बहुमुखी विकास के लिए कक्षा स्तर पर अनेक कार्यक्रम भी विभाग में करवाएँ जाते हैं, जैसे उच्चारण अभ्यास ,श्लोकोच्चारण, मंत्रोंच्चारण आदि।
5. विद्वानों के विशिष्ट व्याख्यान (Extension Lecture), सेमिनार, वेबिनार भी करवाएँ जाते हैं।
6. अन्य महाविद्यालयों व विश्वविद्यालयों में आयोजित होने वाली श्लोकोच्चारण, भाषण, मन्त्रोच्चारण, संस्कृत क्विज आदि प्रतिस्पर्धाओं में छात्रों को भाग लेने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जाता है, जिससे उनके वक्तृत्व कौशल का विकास होता है।
7. विभाग का अपना एक लघु पुस्तकालय भी है जिसमें छात्रोपयोगी पाठ्य पुस्तकें तथा अन्य साहित्य भी विद्यमान हैं, जिसका लाभ छात्र उठाते हैं।
8. डी.ए.वी. का संस्कृत विभाग शोध की दृष्टि से भी महत्त्वपूर्ण है। विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ. सुषमा अलंकार को पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय में पीएच.डी. निर्देशन के लिए संस्तुति प्रदान की गई है। विगत सत्र में इनके निर्देशन में दो पीएच.डी. शोधप्रबंध परिपूर्ण हुए हैं, जिनमें एक शोधकर्त्ता की मौखिक परीक्षा (viva voce test) भी हो चुकी है और सम्प्रति चार शोधार्थियों का पीएच.डी. कार्य प्रगति पर है।
9. कॉलेज अपनी फैकल्टी को शोधपत्र प्रस्तुति के लिए भी प्रोत्साहित करता है। संस्कृत विभाग की अध्यक्षा डॉ. सुषमा अलंकार ने सन् 2018 में वर्ल्ड संस्कृत कॉन्फ्रेंस (यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ ब्रिटिश कोलंबिया, वैंकुअर, कनाडा) में अपना शोध पत्र प्रस्तुत किया। इसके अतिरिक्त अनेक राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी ,सम्मेलन, वेबीनार में भी सक्रिय भूमिका के साथ अपने शोध पत्र प्रस्तुत किए हैं, जिससे संस्कृत जगत् में डी.ए.वी. कॉलेज ,चंडीगढ़ का उल्लेखनीय प्रतिनिधित्व रहा है।
इन सब विशेषताओं के साथ संस्कृत विभाग अपनी विकास यात्रा में निरन्तर अग्रसर है।

THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY,DAV COLLEGE CHANDIGARH was established in the year 2002 Since then it is one of the known department in the college for inspiring students as the department put a lot of efforts in creating awareness among the students through holding seminars and organising workshops and conferences on yearly basis which helps the students to have better perspective not only about their carriers but it helps them in their overall growth.
The Department introduced Post Graduation in sociology in the year 2005
At present, the department consists of 9 faculty members and nearly 1500 students including, undergraduate honours course and post graduation students.
The department since from the beginning maintained topmost academic standards and over the years our students have bagged top merit positions not only in the college as well as in Panjab University.
The dedicated staff members are actively engaged in individual research and helping students through out their academic years.
They have authored many books and also a large number of research papers and they have published many articles in national and international publications.
The department is very promising and professional in order to provide excellent development opportunities for all the students .We even hold educational trips specifically for post graduate students for their better experience and exposure in field research which further help them in their PhD work..
And We also provide students the platform to represent their views on various current issues by giving them opportunities in the year based seminars.
Our students are very enthusiastic and they have excelled in various fields in their chosen careers like in civil services, law, social workers ,education, business, sports, films, environment activists and many more.

The Department of Zoology, established initially for the undergraduate courses was upgraded to Post Graduate Department in 2005 when MSc. Zoology (Two Year Course) was started. Research Centre in Zoology was granted by Punjab University to enrol students for PhD. in the year 2013.The department has 9 permanent teaching faculty at present working tirelessly to train & teach students pursuing BSc. MSc. & PhD. Courses in the college and are also passionately involved in co- curricular activities like NCC, NSS, Dean Student Welfare, Curriculum planning, Gidha & Heritage as in-charges and coordinators of various college clubs. The faculty is well trained for both offline & online teaching mode and are regularly participating in Faculty Development Programs, National / International Seminar & Conferences in India and abroad. Many of the faculty members have published quality research work in journals & books of international fame and have completed Minor/ Major Research projects with grants & funding from various agencies UGC & DST. Some of them have been awarded for the same. They are also pursuing active research and supervising the research students in the fields of Mosquito Systematics, Aquatic Biology, Molecular Biology and Immunology. The department has 3 laboratories for Undergraduate & Post Graduate students and 2 Research labs for PhD students, that are well equipped with all sophisticated instruments & chemicals need for the course practical work. Well maintained Zoology Museum in the department housing about 800 specimens which is the oldest heritage and pride of our college. There is a well kept upgraded departmental library, faculty room for staff and smart class rooms with personal computers & power point projectors. Online & Offline quizzes, seminars & other competitions are held each year in the department for enhancing the student skill & promoting interest in Zoology. The out campus departmental activities undertaken for UG & PG students each year include Field trips, Forest & Wildlife Tours, Visits to Museums & National Parks and training in National & Regional Laboratories and participation in Inter college & Inter university competitions. The department can proudly boast of its long list of its pass out students who have qualified NET, GATE and other Competitive exams and now successfully well placed as academicians and scientists in the reputed institutes all over the world.
